The inspiration for this sculpture came from a photo created by internationally regarded photographer, Joel Robison in honor of Earth Day.  Artist/Blacksmith, Paul Reimer hand-forged the sculpture using 100% recycled steel.  This is our representation of the need for a global view of the issues facing our environment and of the actions we need to take to protect it.

The heart of the sculpture is an eight-foot-high tree configured to depict the world’s continents.  This effect is enhanced by an outer ring of leaves, completing the vision of a globe.

The hundreds of leaves that make up the outer ring, each hand-made and unique, speak to the individual.  One leaf, like one person may not have a huge impact, but many small leaves can nurture and sustain these forest giants for sometimes hundreds of years.  The actions of one person or one country can often seem inconsequential, but when we combine our efforts, great things can be accomplished.  The outer ring not only reinforces the global theme, it also represents our connections to planet earth and to each other and the continuum of life.

The foundation of the sculpture is the tree trunk and symbolizes the need for strong and robust core values of environmental stewardship that will support the sustainability of life on earth.
